SNYDER SCHOOLS ACTIVITIES & STUDENT NEWS

CYCLONES LOOK GOOD IN FIRST SCRIMMAGE

Coach Robert Babcock's Snyder Cyclones got their first taste of outside contact Friday night in a five-team scrimmage at Mountain View. Other teams participating were Merrit, Oklahoma City Christian Academy and Southwest Covenant from El Reno.

Coach Babcock was pleased with the Cyclones play, but said we would face a tougher opponent this week when Temple comes to town for a 7 p.m. scrimmage at Cyclone Stadium.

Snyder's offensive unit had little trouble moving the ball again the four other teams. The Cyclones' second unit matched up well with first teamers from SW Covenant.

Returning quarterback Clifton Keeble picked up where he left off last fall, consistently hitting brothers Geoff and Michael Parker on long pass plays, and Frankie Valderas rushed for good yardage every time he got the ball.

The Cyclones played sound defense, allowing the MV-G Tigers one touchdown on an 8-play drive with the score coming on a one-yard pass.

Snyder will open the season at Grandfield on Friday, September 1. The first home game will be September 15 against Cashion.

Lady Cyclones Win Cameron Classic Volleyball Tournament

Lady Cyclone Johnna Osborn earned MVP honors at the Cameron volleyball tournament last Saturday in Lawton. Snyder scored two straight victories over Calumet to win the Gold Division championship of the Cameron Classic.

Coach Kenny White's squad, seeded No. 3 after posting a 2-1 Pool C record, had all it wanted in the first game, taking a slim 15-13 victory. The Lady Cyclones cruised to a 15-5 win in the second game.

White said his squad was sharp in the first game, just not as sharp as they could have been. Snyder passed better and had better down balls in the second game, according to White.

The Lady Cyclones opened pool play with a 15-6, 15-7 victory over Big Pasture. White's crew had their hands full with a strong Indiahoma team before pulling out 15-13 and 15-11 victories.

In the final pool match the Cyclones pounded Lawton MacArthur, 15-1, in the first game. White played his second team in the second game, and they were edged by the Lady Highlanders, 13-15.

Snyder is playing without the services of Misty Igo due to a knee injury suffered in the Area Basketball Tournament earlier this year. She will miss the volleyball season, but should be ready when basketball season comes around.

The Lady Cyclones were back in action Monday when they traveled to Tipton and defeated the Lady Tigers, 12-15, 15-3, and 15-5. Snyder hosted Fletcher Tuesday, but scores weren't available at press time.

CYCLONES SCRIMMAGE HERE FRIDAY

The Snyder Cyclones will host Temple this Friday night for their final scrimmage of the season. The event will begin at 7:00 p.m. at Cyclone Stadium. Your donation at the gate of a towel or bar of soap will be appreciated.
